I’ve rebuilt my personal website, and that means it’s time for the obligatory hello world
post.
For now I’ll simply summarise why I’ve created a new website.
- My own space. I’ve become increasingly disillusioned with Facebook, Twitter / X, and social media in general. I rarely post anymore, and so decided it was time to renovate my humble home on the web.
- A place to tinker with Astro, my new favourite static site generator! I still like Hugo, but after experimenting with alternatives like Eleventy I stumbled upon Astro. I can’t remember the last time I found a piece of web tooling so intuitive and enjoyable. Here I’ve combined Astro with other tech I’m currently using, including TailwindCSS and Plausible.
- Work. I’m lucky enough to have a good job at a profitable company, working on a product I believe in. But even so, seeing friends being laid off left and right makes me uneasy. For that reason I decided to get this place back in shape, so that it can act as an online CV of sorts.
It’s a work-in-progress, and I’m not sure how often I’ll find the time to post here. Most of my free time is spent (a) parenting my two boys with my wife, and (b) running my other website. But we’ll see!
It’s fun to be building things on the web again.
