Bitcoin maximalism is the view that bitcoin is fundamentally different from — and more important than — other cryptocurrencies.
People described as Bitcoin maximalists typically believe that:
- bitcoin’s decentralisation and security are unmatched,
- most alternative cryptocurrencies are unnecessary or compromised,
- development and adoption should focus primarily on bitcoin.
The term is often used critically, but some Bitcoin supporters adopt it themselves as a shorthand for their conviction.
