This has been the longest I’ve gone without posting here since I started this website almost 10 years ago. I became a dad in 2021, and again in 2023, just a few months ago. As I hope you can imagine, my free time is now somewhat limited compared to the early days of this website:
I’ve also changed jobs - after nearly 8 years at the agency Builtvisible I left in 2020 to join Wise (then known as TransferWise). I was hired into the SEO team but now head up Marketing Platform, an engineering team responsible for marketing data infrastructure. It’s been a busy few years at Wise - we had a domain migration, a rebrand, and an IPO in quick succession.
So, why am I posting here again? Because I’ve only gone and indulged in that most foolish of pastimes and rebuilt my personal website. In short, I wanted:
- to tinker with Astro, my new favourite static site generator. I still like Hugo, but after experimenting with alternatives like Eleventy I stumbled upon Astro. I can’t remember the last time I found a piece of web tooling so intuitive and enjoyable. Here I’ve combined Astro with other tech I’m currently using, including TailwindCSS and Plausible.
- to remake this site into a CV of sorts. I’m lucky enough to have a good job at a profitable company, working on a product I believe in. But even so, seeing friends being laid off left and right makes me uneasy. For that reason I decided to get this place back in shape, so that it can act as an online CV.
It’s a work-in-progress, and there’s still things I need to add. But after so long focusing on the content of my other website, it sure feels good to be building things on the web again.
